Joanna Zylinska

Joanna Zylinska is a writer, lecturer and photographic artist. She teaches media and communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. The author of books on a variety of cultural issues – from spiders and cyborgs to plastic surgery and bioart – she combines her philosophical writings with photographic art practice. In her art work, Zylinska is particularly interested in the process of photographic mediation and in examining photography’s kinship with other media. Her photo projects have appeared in the book Interfaces of Performance (Ashgate, 2009) and in art magazines Rubric and 20×20. Recent exhibitions include ‘Solid States/Liquid Objects’ (two-artist show with Nina Sellars) in the Shifted Gallery in Melbourne and ‘Between Bodies’ at Monash University Prato Centre, Italy. Her co-curated show, ‘Home and Away’ – a poetic reflection on the movement of bodies and minds across cities, continents and cultures in the age of globalisation – has been exhibited at Bath Fringe Festival and at Castlefield Gallery in Manchester, and will be on display at the ISE Cultural Foundation in New York in December 2011.
