Marie Claire Ashcroft

Still relatively early in her career as a photographer, Marie-Claire has come from a background of modern foreign languages, export and sales working both in the UK and abroad. She developed her photographic practice initially by working as a self-taught commercial photographer, which in turn enabled return to study, as she was eager to develop a deeper understanding of photography.

Just about to complete a foundation degree in Contemporary Photography at Mid Cheshire College, Marie-Claire feels incredibly fortunate to have been selected to work alongside so many talented and established photographers in the Lightbox project.

Both Marie-Claire’s commercial and personal photography revolves mainly around people. She began taking photographs initially as a memory aid but in doing this realised her sensitivity to others and the connection the camera gave her to the world around her. Having been described as a prolific photographer, she enjoys looking at culture, escapism and interpersonal relations and her photography is often as much about herself and current state of mind as it is about the subjects she photographs.

The Lightbox project has enabled her to work collaboratively on something different to what she would normally have done herself.
