As an Iranian immigrant, I have always been keen to show the difference between freedom in the West and lack of democracy in Iran. This body of work is comparing two big but very different festival; Uk Gay Pride and a 10 day religious ceremony in Iran called Moharam. My work consist of a collection of photographs, showing the juxtaposition between these two worlds. I am trying to highlight how freedom in the West is taken for granted. Where as in oppressed countries like Iran, people use this religious ceremony as an opportunity to come out and express themselves. To Westerners this is very exaggerated and can be compared to the liberated gay pride festivals.
